Meet Eleni Kapetanios, Registered Psychotherapist

Guelph therapist, guelph psychotherapy, trauma

Therapy doesn't have to feel clinical to be meaningful.

I believe some of the most important work in therapy happens when you finally feel safe enough to stop performing — to stop trying to say the right thing, explain yourself perfectly, or take care of the person sitting across from you.

My job isn't to sit silently and analyze you from the other side of the room.

I'm engaged. I'm curious. I'll ask questions, notice patterns with you, and sometimes gently challenge you. We'll probably laugh sometimes, too.

And underneath all of that is something I take very seriously: you should feel safe enough in therapy to be yourself.

Why I Do This Work

Much of my work is with people who have spent years adapting themselves to other people.

Maybe you learned to read the room before you learned to read yourself.

Maybe you're incredibly good at knowing when someone is upset — but have a much harder time knowing what you need.

Maybe you've been called too sensitive, selfish, difficult or dramatic often enough that you've stopped trusting your own reactions.

Or maybe you're only beginning to realize that some of the things you've always thought were simply your personality — people-pleasing, over-explaining, keeping the peace, avoiding conflict — may have a history.

I'm especially drawn to helping people make sense of those patterns.

Not so we can blame everything on the past, but because understanding why you became who you needed to be can create room to discover who you are when you don't have to survive that way anymore.

What Therapy With Me Is Like

You don't have to come into my office knowing exactly what you want to work on.

You don't need the perfect words.

And you definitely don't have to worry about being a “good therapy client.”

We'll start wherever you are.

My approach is relational and integrative, which means I don't try to fit every person into one therapeutic model. Depending on what you need, our work may draw from psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based approaches and other trauma-informed therapies.

Sometimes we'll explore where a pattern began.

Sometimes we'll work with what's happening in your life right now.

Sometimes insight isn't enough, and we'll work more directly with painful memories, beliefs or experiences through EMDR.

The approach can change.

The relationship doesn't.

I want therapy to be a place where you're allowed to be complicated, uncertain, angry, sad, funny, frustrated — or not quite sure what you're feeling yet.
